Design Project, Power Generation

Montreal, Canada | Aug 2007 - May 2008

Research project: Gasification of petroleum coke to generate power and steam for cogeneration
  • Personal responsibilities included: Creation of the Desulfurization Process, Refrigeration Process and Economic Analysis
  • Creation of process (using HYSYS), process descriptions, and P&IDs for the conversion of sour crude to sweet crude
  • Evaluated cooling requirements to develop adequate propane refrigeration loop
  • Sized heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and vessels
  • Created detailed economic analysis involving fixed capital expenditures, operation costs, and revenues from product sales and hypothetical carbon tax savings if implemented by the Government of Alberta

Model Flow Visualization Researcher, Internship

Montreal, Canada | May 2007 - Jul 2007

Primary goal: Extended study of fluid mechanics inside cardiac arteries
  • Calculated shear stress on aortic stenotic model walls using laminar velocity profile
  • Used mechanical motors and flow visualization cameras
  • Used and wrote report on machine’s LabView program
  • Investigated velocity profile of fluids through different stents
  • Constructed stenotic models in lab
